It's been bother having to lug a standard external drive around while on vacation, but the physical size of this drive, not to forget the 500 GB capacity, more than meets my needs. I created several partitions on it to store a backup of my PC hard drive, a backup of my family videos and photos, and a backup of my MACOS hard drive. Small enough to store in secure places like a safe or security box. Very quiet when running. I have not had to use both USB cables at once. Seems to work ok with just one plugged in. It should be treated like any hard drive, keep it stationary when you're using it and store it in a safe place when you're not. Highly recommend! Iomega Prestige 500 GB USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive Date: 2009-04-13 | Rating: 5 Great Value and seamless installation. I just plugged it into the USB port and and everything installed automatically. It even came with a system backup software package that has many options for backing up your entire system or partial backups. Right now I have 3 complete system backups and still have over 400 GB of free space. The hard drive is small, sturdy and reliable. You can unplug it and take it with you in a matter of seconds. I would recommend this to anyone. Faster than my previous Iomega eGo 320GB Date: 2009-09-26 | Rating: 5 I've had several Iomega and other branded small portable hard drives. This one is the best one I've had from every aspect. It transfers data fast, looks very sleek, the metal keeps it cool and it is reminiscent of some of the Mac Pro desktop cases. It is definitely faster at transferring data than the eGo 320 red that I had and the western digital passport that had only a single USB cable. And it doesn't scratch (since it's unpainted metal) like some of the western digital drives I've had. I don't like that it has a double snakehead USB cable. I don't like consuming two USB ports, but if you want fast speeds in a portable, it seems all but mandatory these days on most brands. Iomega Prestige 500GB Review Date: 2009-04-11 | Rating: 5 I've had the product just short of a month and I am completely satisfied. I use it for additional storage for my laptop, and its small size makes it very handy to stick into the bag with the laptop. It fits into my shirt pocket, but I don't like the risk of it falling out. I've learned that if I attach it via a USB hub with lots of other gadgets (thumb drives, headset, webcam, etc.) it could use an auxiliary power adapter. It does have a jack for a 5V supply. Update: The original drive, the one previously reviewed, died completely in early August. I received a replacement from Iomega, but I haven't used it as of October 19. I inserted a 500GB drive in my laptop instead of depending upon an external for extra storage. I use a Western Digital 1TB for backup.
